Ser voluntario en Armenia no es ir a hacer caridad o beneficencia. Es ir a trabajar todos los días, tratando de dar lo mejor de uno, comprometiéndose con la tarea e ingeniándosela para lograrlo.

En mi experiencia de dos meses y medio fui voluntaria en un centro para chicos y jóvenes, como profesora de guitarra, y fui voluntaria en la escuela Armenio-Argentina, como maestra de español. Al comienzo pasó un tiempito hasta que logré adaptarme, ya que estaba en Armenia, hablando armenio como podía, relacionándome con gente nueva y, además, era la primera vez que me desenvolvía como docente en una escuela. Así que, la experiencia como voluntaria fue enriquecedora para mí en varios sentidos.

Fue pasando el tiempo, y fui ingeniándomelas cada vez más como maestra, pensando actividades para que los chicos me prestaran atención, ejercicios o canciones en español. No fue fácil, pero cada día iba mejorando un poco más. Fui integrándome cada vez más a los equipos de trabajo de cada uno de los lugares, hasta que logré conocer a muy buenas personas, muy agradables, que siempre estaban dispuestas a ayudarme. Fui practicando y mejorando bastante mi armenio, ya que todo el tiempo tenía que hablarlo, ya sea con los chicos o con mis compañeros de trabajo. Y, principalmente, fui recibiendo cada vez más interés y más cariño por parte de los alumnos de guitarra y de español, lo que me puso muy contenta, y un poco triste, al momento de finalizar el voluntariado.

Eso es lo que más rescato de viajar a Armenia y ser voluntario: el impacto que esto genera en la gente de allá, y las relaciones humanas que se pueden formar a partir de ello. El cariño de los chicos, la buena voluntad y el interés de los adultos, y el compañerismo de los jóvenes.

En fin, este viaje a Armenia fue hermoso y muy intenso para mí…y el hecho de haber trabajado como voluntaria, hizo que el viaje y toda la experiencia sea aún más enriquecedora.

A person volunteering in Armenia is not going to do any sort of charity. He or she is going to work hard every day, trying to do their best, committing to the task and to the community.

During my experience of two and a half months in Armenia, I volunteered at the center for children and youth as a guitar teacher, and I volunteered at the Armenian-Argentinean School in Yerevan as a Spanish language teacher. It took some time in the beginning to manage to adapt to the new place Armenia, speaking Armenian was new to me, relationships with new people and also it was the first time I worked as a teacher at a school. So the volunteer experience was enriching and challenging for me in many ways.

Time passed, and I grew increasingly as a teacher, thinking activities for kids to pay attention to me, exercises and songs in Spanish. It was not easy, but everyday was improving a little more. I grew increasingly in terms of team work, but at each of the places I met very nice people who were always willing to help. I was practicing and improving my own knowledge of Armenian language, because often time I had to speak Armenian to the students and my coworkers. And also, I was receiving increasing interest and affection for the students of guitar and Spanish, which made me very happy but also a little sad end when volunteering.

That is what remains the most after the journey to Armenia and after having volunteered there: the impact it creates for other people there and relationships that can be formed, the love from kids, good will and interest of adults, and youth networks.

After all, this trip to Armenia was beautiful and very deep for me... and the fact that I worked as a volunteer, made the trip and the whole experience even more rewarding.
